Hey, if you’re a fantasy football league manager or a country music star looking to shot an animal in the cage, here’s some cheap options to impress your fans. Vernand Morency, rb, Houston Texans- Domanick Davis is a huge question mark in Houston. The coaches are cracking jokes about him behind his back and the cheerleaders have started to cast their eyes on Vernand Morency as the new whippersnapper on the block. If your fantasy football league draft is sooner rather than later, grab this potential floor flusher in the late rounds and see what happens. As we get closer to the season, Morency may be headed straight to the middle rounds. Kevan Barlow, rb, New York Jets- The New York Jets sent an undisclosed and presumably low draft pick to San Francisco 49ers for the rights to running back Kevan Barlow and the accompanying uninspired sighs of Jets fans. Barlow should win the Jets starting running back job but after two ridiculously uninspired years in San Francisco don’t expect this dewdropper to commit arson on the world. Thomas Jones, rb, Chicago Bears- MAZUMA! Thomas Jones is back and there’s an old sheriff in town. Cedric Benson is proving to the world that he has no sense of timing and any grand entrance by Benson will happen later in the season. In the meantime, floor flusher Thomas Jones will be sitting there for fantasy football league managers to snap up for good value in the early to middle rounds. Dominick Rhodes, rb, Indianapolis Colts- Joseph Addai looks a little lost right now which is seemingly impossible to do in the Indianapolis offense, similar to how it’s impossible to look bad with Rita Hayworth on your arm. But you know what, I’ve managed to pull off that feat a many times when I’ve been half seas over and there were purse and lipstick marks on my face. Rhodes may be getting this job by default. Mike Bell, rb, Denver Broncos- I can’t believe this is actually happening but Planet Shanahan has done it again. Mike Bell scored two touchdowns and had 73 yards on 10 carries. Apparently, remarkably, amazingly, marvelously, astonishingly an alien is going to be a starting running back in the NFL. We’ve come along way fellow earthlings. Frank Gore, rb, San Francisco 49ers- Now that Kevan Barlow has been sent walking across the country Gore is officially the starter in San Francisco. While this does little to inspire more than a lightly spoken attaboy, this Miama product could have you attaboying everyone you pass on the street by mid-season. Jump on the trolley with this one.

Musa Smith, rb, Baltimore Ravens- Ravens head coach and madman Brian Billick won’t admit it yet, but he has to know, somewhere in that brain that plays a genius on tv, that Musa Smith has been the best running back in Baltimore this summer. With Jamal Lewis injured and lost in the woods, I’d build a fire with Smith, make a brandy (recipe: one highball, fill with brandy) and lay on the bear skin rug.
