Scoop ChicosSenior Staff WriterFantasy Football Commissioner Bill Belichick is from the Future, Brad Johnson is from the Past
Bill Belichick is more than a football genius, he’s a fashion genius. That weird futuristic apocalyptic sweatshirt with the sleeves cut off Belichick was wearing on Monday night was a thing to behold. He looked like a madcap; coached like a mad man; and convinced this old sportswriter that it’s time for one old quarterback to take a seat.
I’m an old man but I’m spry as hell. I can still dance a mean jig especially with the giggle juice flowing. Hell, sometimes I break out into a quick one-two in the house, sending birds to the treetops. Being spry is the key to longevity, especially if you’re a quarterback or an old boozed up sportswriter.
So far this NFL season we’ve seen two elderly quarterbacks have there starting careers end because they are not spry. Drew Bledsoe and Kurt Warner were eaten by robots. It’s just not possible to successfully thrive at that position if you can’t remain spry. If your starting fantasy quarterback is named Johnson, Favre, Brunell or McNair you’d be wise to have a solid backup. If you’re in playoff contention and you don’t have a solid back up, trade for one right now.
On Monday night, weird Bill Belichick completely out coached Vikings coach Brad Childress. The peculiar Belichick also mystified Brad Johnson to the point that he may have done the future of the Minnesota Vikings a favor. Brad Johnson is going the way of Bledsoe and Warner and the answer at quarterback isn’t that Brooks Bollinger thing that crawled out of the gutter to play the last ten minutes on Monday night. It’s time for Brad Childress to be forward thinking enough to insert rookie Tavarious Jackson. Brad Johnson is incapable of throwing if there is any sort of pressure on him. The only way he can throw the ball 35 yards is to be able to set his feet and be standing all alone in the pocket. If the pocket is collapsing the most he can heave it is ten yards. I have to chase myself. The reason why the Vikings are starting Johnson is for his apparent ability to manage games. Somehow, Johnson has put a spell on Childress as the coach is rather delusional about Johnson’s results this season. The defense is the only reason why the Vikings have won any games this season, without the defense, they would be 0-7. Johnson has 7 interceptions and 4 touchdowns (tied for 30th among NFL quarterbacks). His quarterback rating is 24th in the NFL. The Vikings offense has scored only 7 touchdowns in 7 games and the only way this team is going to do anything anytime soon is to get that young whippersnapper Jackson out there and see what he can do. He can evade the robots and has a cannon. He more than showed in the pre-season that he can handle himself out there and the only way the Vikings are going to find out is to throw him to the robots.
Mobility is the name of the game in the NFL these days. Defenses are built for speed and if you are slow and old, you better get the hell out of the way. And if you’re slow and old and that weird futuristic apocalyptic dressed coach Bill Belichick is on the opposing sideline be sure to write out the will of your NFL career before kickoff. Sue me.
